Valborgsfirande i Lissabon

VALBORG 2010

Valborg is celebrated by Swedes all over the world on the 30th of April. Here in Portugal we have celebrated Valborg on Praia da Conceição in Cascais. Earlier on we had a big bonfire on the beach, the children sang beautiful spring songs, we grown-ups tried to sing too, we held a speech to Spring and all brought picnics to be had on the beach.

Lately we have experienced great difficulties in getting authorization from the Cascais Port Authority to organize our meeting on the beach and even more difficulties in having our traditional bonfire even though we promised to make it as small as possible.

This year the Nordic Club and SWEA have decided to change the venue of the Party to the DOM CARLOS CLUB and start a new Valborg tradition for all Nordics in the great Lisbon area. Here we will be able to have our small bonfire and all the traditions of yesteryear including singing by children from the Swedish School and a speech dedicated to SPRING!

On the way to Guincho we discovered what we believe is the perfect spot to celebrate Valborg. It is a secluded and beautiful place in the Marinha area close to Areia. Coming from Guincho you reach the first rotunda in Areia. On the right in the rotunda you will find a sign for CLUB DOM CARLOS, turn in through the gate and follow the narrow sandy lane for a far as you can (passing tennis courts on your right), we will attach some balloons at the gate for your guidance. When you can get no further over the sand dunes, there is a parking place and the Club will be in front of you.

The cost for the evening, which includes drinks and a delicious Scandinavian dinner, will be
€ 25.00 per adult, children between 5 and 12 will pay € 12.00 smaller children are at no cost.

We hope you will join us, and also hope you might want to bring some friends to introduce them to our customs, in celebrating the arrival of Spring and Valborg.

/Sveriges ambassad i Lissabon

Detta betyder mer än en TREDUBBLING (3.5X) av priserna!

Networking Seminar Saturday 13 June 2009 in Cascais

Call for Seminar Saturday 13 June 2009 in Cascais!

Now it’s here - our first seminar organised by SWEA’s Global Professional Network – in Portugal (GPN), held at the Hotel Baía in the centre of Cascais.

Networking in Portugal seen from the Eyes of a Foreigner & the Value of the Human Capital and the Cultural Differences in making Business and Contacts in Portugal and other Latin countries versus North Europe and the Anglo-Saxon world.

Programme:

10.00 Sign-in, coffee and mingling

10.15 Welcome and a brief overview of what has happened since our last reunion

10.30 Round table – short presentation of everyone present

11.00 Business Networking in Portugal by David Sampson
My father wanted me to be an accountant but being a solicitor seemed more exciting and by the age of nine I decided that was what I wanted to be. At 30 I woke up and realised there was more to life. When my friends came to Portugal in the mid 1980s I came too with my wife and family. I first practised as a property lawyer and then set up the magazine People & Business.

I now write and edit, translate and advise. I am glad to have more time to enjoy what the world has to offer. Being in Portugal has given me the opportunity to learn the importance of listening, of showing respect and of paying attention. This has in turn led to more harmony at home and more fulfilment in business.

I will talk about my experience of doing business in Portugal, and I hope to provide examples of networking as well as of my take on Portugal, its people and its history.

11.45 Discussion and Q & A as well as what we can learn from his experiences

12.30 Lunch – at the venue will give a good opportunity to mingle and catch up
as well as to present own businesses and services that might be of interest
to other participants.

14.30 “A journey through the Portuguese Culture” by Luis Morgadinho, consultant
at Human Element. Who will tell about the challenges in the Portuguese working climate and how to overcome them.

The Human Element is a systematic approach for improving the way people work together leading to greater accomplishment of goals and better individual, team, and organizational performance. By dealing with root causes rather than superficial behaviours, The Human Element makes profound changes possible in individual self-regard resulting in increased emotional and social intelligence, enhanced creativity, greater personal clarity, focus and conviction, more authenticity, increased trust, and greater personal satisfaction. By helping individuals, teams and organizations become more aware and reduce their defensive behaviours, The Human Element helps them eliminate the distortions that sabotage them, undermine their relationships and destroy their motivation.

15.15 Discussion and Q & A and applying our experiences to what we have heard.

16.00 Conclusions and closing of seminar
